There are different kinds of colleges that are available today. The problem lies in finding the type of education which matches to your specific interests and needs. We all learn best through different methods and identify the learning method is the best way to understand what work environment would be best for you.

General learning environment for college-level studies are as follows: community colleges, universities, and learning online or distance. Community colleges tend to offer smaller classrooms with more discussion-oriented styles of learning and discourse. Universities tend to be more lecture oriented while distance learning opportunities and online self-directed learning opportunities that require a lot of discipline to be successful.

When trying to identify colleges that will work best for you, you should keep in mind your personal style of learning. Beyond that you also have to consider the kind of environment you’d expect from higher education and the amount of time you want to devote to pursue your education and degrees. Some people find that university life is much too distracting while others find that the solitude of online and distance learning is a disorder in and of itself.

You’ll find all sorts of cultural opportunities at a university that is not found through home study or at the community college. Another important consideration is housing. Most universities have sufficient on-campus housing. Some universities only provide housing for students who have spouse and children. Online or distance learning program certainly does not offer housing for students.

Another attention that should be considered carefully is the distance between the class and each special need you may have. Universities tend to be large and spreading with distance in between the buildings. To students with special needs or physical disabilities this can be very problematic, especially in climate weather days. Community colleges tend to have smaller campuses. Online and classes learning need room, computer and internet access.

You should consider all these things which are suitable for you. Do you really want to take personal responsibility?  It is suitable in online or distance courses.  Do you want to take little courses? It is suitable in community college. You have to answer this question by your self.
